So I'm finding out nationwide doesn't apply to the small guys !!!
WTH

10 screen 25 miles away that plays most everything,
We do play many on the break, but was just turned down on Maleficent ( Disney ) on the break .
Not going that wide .

I don't think I'll ever understand distributors' marketing plans. They key on different numbers than I would. They like things like per show or per screen sales, which a small town theater has little or no hope of impressing them with. If I were them, I'd want total nationwide or worldwide sales to be the highest, not per screen sales or whatever. They are leaving dollars on the table and hurting exhibitors in the process.

Back in the days of film, they had an excuse not to give a small town theater a print... the cost of the print was big. Now, it just doesn't fit their plans. And to think many exhibitors, like me, were thinking that once everyone had digital that distribution would go much wider. So much for that. Seems fishy to me.

Yep.

Per some of the previous threads, I went through the same with Downton Abbey. Even though it was listed as a "nationwide" release, most smaller theaters were denied. I find it interesting that Maleficent isn't going that wide. It was on my list, but have to go Addams instead.

Geez, I just assumed we'd get Maleficent, I better check that with our booker now.

We were told Downton Abbey wasn't going wide and we couldn't get it, then it was going wider but we still couldn't get it, now finally we got it opening weekend.

I'd also heard Joker might not go as wide as expected, but we just got that locked down after all.

Crazy how they limit some cinemas.

We got Malecifent 2 without any trouble, and we're a small-town 2 screen.

My concern is November - we've been told Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood may be hard to book, it might not go ultra-wide. It's the #1 requested title of the fall for us (after Downton Abbey), so that's a concern!

You booking yourself, or do you have a booker Gentry? Just curious - we've got a booker, I wonder if that's making the difference.

Nice busy three screen and we could not get Zombie or Malefficency on the break either. When they go 3400-3700 it leaves anywhere from 600-1000 potential theatres out of the loop. As a exhibitor and a booker I find I get complacent due to digital and I assume that big pics (Maleficent 2? not going wide???!!!) will be available. I'm working on getting ahead of myself.
