We have ran the Knoxville Horror Film Fest for 10 years and have decided to take our operation year round and expand to all kinds of cinema. We have a pretty good idea of what kind of equipment we plan to use, but we want to get some more input. Our theater will be about 2000 sq ft with around 100 seats.

Can anyone recommend the best affordable options for 4k Projectors, Decent Sound systems, popcorn poppers and theater seats.

Any information is very appreciated.

Thanks!]]>

Gentry Cinema - Auction is Scheduled for May 19 - by: lionheart http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/forums/502-movie-theaters/39-the-lobby/topic.html?id=39798#43696 http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/forums/502-movie-theaters/39-the-lobby/topic.html?id=39798#43696
To check out the auction listing, visit: "Williams & Williams Real Estate Auction

This property does not have digital equipment, but is likely to go for a low enough price that anyone interested in operating the theater will get a great deal on the building, land, and the equipment that is in the building. There are still seats, screens, concession equipment, film projection equipment, speakers and Dolby SR sound equipment in the building.

When visiting the auction listing, be sure to check out the description and photos. Also don't overlook the "General Layout" and "Mechanical Plans" links in the "Helpful Tools & Links" block.

If anyone is interested in visiting the property, the auction company will open it to the public for viewing on May 12th.

Please pass this information along to anyone you think might be interested or who could help get the word out. I don't use much in the way of social networking or social media websites, programs or apps, so I would appreciate if you could pass the word for me. There are links on the auction site for sharing through facebook, twitter, etc. I don't use those, so your help would be sincerely appreciated.

I am hoping to get some interest going, but I suspect I'm going to lose a lot of money.

Single-Screen First-Run Without 3 week commitment? - by: wilhelm_1976 http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/forums/502-movie-theaters/39-the-lobby/topic.html?id=39794#43675 http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/forums/502-movie-theaters/39-the-lobby/topic.html?id=39794#43675
100 year old single screen theater. Seats 225 with balcony. Fully digital. Surrounding community of 15,000.

We purchased this theater a little over a year ago and have been off and running films 7 days a week. Most films have been out for 2-3 weeks before we get them. A couple 1st runs.

Theater has been doing decent numbers. A small profit after a year.

The problem:
The terms and the schedule.

We cannot seem to get the terms we want for films. Specifically the kids movies. Disney wants a 3 week commitment for almost all their movies now. Other companies want us to run their film for 2 weeks.

Think about how well a single movie that runs for 3 weeks might do, in a small community.

Add to that, we can't seem to get the booker to get us films scheduled more than 2-3 weeks out. If people don't know what is coming...they'll just go to the next larger town over to see the film.

We need better terms and the ability to advertise what's coming!

What I am looking for, is someone to tell me if my expectations are out of whack. If I had a booker tell me that they could get me better terms and a films scheduled 6 weeks in advance.. I'd go with them in a heartbeat!

Apologies if I am preaching to the choir.

Thanks!]]>
