WHAT KIND OF PERCENTAGE OF SALES SHOULD YOUR LABOR BE? OF SALES WHAT PERCENTAGE IS ADMISSIONS AND WHAT PERCENTAGE IS CONCESSION GENERALY? http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum39/HTML/000421.html

17. I am thinking about starting a movie theater. There is a vacant theater in my town that I am thinking about updating. I would update it to stadium seating and digital sound. I am 26 and new to the movie theater business, but I have been involved in father's family business for a while now. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum39/HTML/000436.html

18. I would like to own my own theater some day, and I have been in the business for 10 years.
I run 3 theaters and have learned everything I can from the owner. We have talked and when he retires in a few years he will give me first shot at buying from him.My problem is that I am not making alot of money now and with 2 children saving money is getting harder and harder. How does an "average joe" like me get enough money to purchase a business? I would like to hear from anyone who has an idea, or someone who has already been there. http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum39/HTML/000465.html

19. I'm interested in opening a movie theater, but I don't know how to get started. Is there a book that I can read or a website to visit. I'm thinking about opening a six or eight screen complex. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum47/HTML/000040.html

20. I am contemplating reopening the old theatre in my town (closed when the megaplex moved in) under a cinema drafthouse concept. I am trying to find the demographic info that will help me build my income projection. I figure I can work the restaurant numbers off the projected movie attendance. Can anyone point me to where I can get numbers on movie attendance within a given population. If anyone out there can help me out with that or even with industry data on the cinema/restaurant concept I would appreciate it. http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum47/HTML/000037.html

21. I'm looking into the possibility of opening a single (possibly twin) screen theater and I'm getting the basics down. I've worked concessions and even a bit of projection back in the mid 80's when I was in high school, btu I never got acquainted with the business side of the operations. Unfortunately the theater that I worked in was torn down and my options for an existing property are VERY limited. Therefore I may be stuck in the position of needing to build new. Can anyone give me any tips, pointers, links, and so on to help me get a head start? I've been pouring through the postings here and I have learned quite a bit, but I'm always looking to learn more. http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum47/HTML/000049.html

22.Myself and two other are considering opening a theatre pub in our city. Theatre Pubs are very popular in Portland, OR., however, in our neighboring city there are none. We have a population of nearly 200,000, and feel that people would prefer to experience the Theatre Pub on our side of the river. Is there anyone who has had experience with theatre pubs? Should we look for closed theatre's(if any), retail space, etc... Any information would be much appreciated. http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum47/HTML/000043.html

23. I am looking to open a new theater in a smaller market. The retail trade population in my area is around 500,000. Currently, there are only 2 major multiplexes in town. The lines are outrageous. I want to build a small theater that serves dinner while the show is on. I have checked several sources, and also into several different types of equipment and design. Does anyone out there have any recommendations? I would appreciate any help or advise anyone has to offer!! http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum47/HTML/000071.html

24. I am researching the feasibility of opening a cafe-style movie theater. I'm trying to absorb as much info as I can about theater operations. Most of the film industry books I've found are directed toward producing, directing, and distributing films. I have found very little on "How to Successfully Run a Movie Theater." I am particularly interested in how films are booked and what a film rental agreement looks like.
Would the group suggest any particular resoures?

25. We are considering purchasing a 3 screen theatre that has been totally remodeled and is completely ready to open. We live in a small (pop 5,000) town without any competition, the town is growing and adding great restaurants soon so we feel good about the fact that we will sell tickets... How many is the question?? We have NO clue what to expect. We have the capacity to hold up to 388 people and will play first run (if we are allowed) :eek!: Is it true that the distributor keeps 90% of the ticket sales? We want to sell tickets for $3-$4 and have reasonable concessions. Can anyone take an educated guess at what our expected gross could possibly be??? We are 20 miles from a large theatre and have a lot of small towns surrounding ours. I appreciate any input.... http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/ubb/Forum43/HTML/000167.html

26. I'm thinking about opening a first run 6 screen movie theater in san jose, california. i'm hesitant because of cost expenses. I'm currently developing a business plan to try to get funding; however, i would like to know any of the following information:
-what are average total revenues in san jose for 6 screens?
-what are the annual costs of opening and running an six screen theater?
-average film exhibition costs
-concession costs
-theater operating expense
how profitable would it be? 6 digit income or 7 digit income?

27.Ok, I have no movie experience. I would like to open a theatre, and I understand all the hard work. I have barely scratched the surface on research. One thing I can't seem to figure out, though:
Do any chains offer franchises?

Seems like it would be the easiest way to break in, if not the best.
