TOPIC: Porcelain Floor Tiles

Porcelain Floor Tiles 03 Apr 2005 11:20 #28846

What is a good way to remove old glue, which is covering an original floor with porelain tiles (1 inch octagon shaped. I have been using a 4 inch scraper with some good results, but it is extremely time consuming. Also, it catches any uneven surface and wondered if sanding might work or any other method, thanks.

IF you're talking about the rubber based cement (which eventually hardens) that came into use around the 1950's, it is miserable stuff to remove, and it sounds like you're already on the right track... I'd guess that an old fashoned floor sanding machine using very coarse belts might also work, and do the job faster... If you're doing a large area it's certainly worth a try...
