I have lurked here for a couple of years and now it's time for my first post. A little background- I have 20 years in the biz from single screen management to multi-unit supervision. I have an opportunity to open my own theatre- a 3-screen stadium seating, all digital sound theatre in a market of 25,000 county population in a seasonal resort community. A casino is also in town. Closest competition is 45 minutes away and no stadium seating. I've run the numbers and my experience tells me yes. Financing is secured as well as an investor partner. I know this question has been asked a million times before but when you're about ready to take a big leap off of a high diving board, it helps to have all the advice one can find. Do I sound crazy with my belief in this?

Make sure you have room to expand. 3-is a good starting point. Will the casino kick is some money?

By the way, yes you are crazy, but then that's the theatre biz.

Yes, we have provisioned for 2 additional screens in the space. The theatre will be a build out of an existing space. High ceilings and wide free span space between support columns. The casino is not backing us financially but we are working out joint marketing between our businesses.

Sounds good. I think you'll do well.

In a lot of cases 3 screens will mean giving up product too quickly when the precentages have dropped to a level that you are making the money the print has to leave to open the next title
