We are starting to look into adding screens and today had an initial talk with a theater architect. He quoted us a price of $5000 to come and take measurements and get started, an additional $8000 for the plans and then an addtional $60,000 to monitor the building to make sure everything is done right. Is this the "going rate" for architects or do we need to keep looking?

Keep looking. A lot will depend on what you are going to spend. Often they charge apercentage of what is spent. Competitive pricing will let you know hat the going rate is.

Linda,
basically for 60K they are project managing. If you have a contractor that you are comfortable with, and you have some experience, you really may not need a project manager.
