I would like to start educating myself in order to open an independent movie theater in the future in Puerto Rico. However, I do not know anything yet about the industry. How do you suggest that I start getting informed? Any useful reading? Any other good websites besides this one? I would appreciate any referrals or stories about how you got started and what helped you most.

Thanks, Carmen

I was born into the business Carmen and that's too long a story to go into here. Boxoffice magazine is probably the best known trade journal (www.boxoffice.com) and another website you could try is www.film-tech.com. It's a wonderful business and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Good luck!

Hi Carmen/ we just came back from P.R. We were in San Juan and Guanica. Where are you thinking of your theatre?

Dear Carmen

We've been in the business of designing movie theatres for over 20 years. We love the business also. It gets into your blood, and you never get over it.

We can give you lots of input on cinema design, costs, etc. but I think it's a bit premature.
