TOPIC: Cinema Egyptien

Cinema Egyptien 11 Oct 2002 19:01 #27944

MesburSmith,

Will you please provide information on the Cinema Egyptien?

Anything you can tell me please!

One specific question: Which auditorium is pictured on your website, and did they all look like that?

I don't have too much more on the Egyptien. The Cour Mont Royal project in Montreal was the conversion of an old hotel to a new retail commercial centre with offices and condominiums. The retail occupied the ground level and I think two underground levels. Below the second basement, space was created by excavating around the concrete caissons which held up the building. I'm attaching a floor plan to this post (I hope it works).
There are three auditoriums of 240, 304 and 396 seats, for a total of 940 seats.

Rivest says seat counts are:
#1=378
#2=198
#3=279

But you say it's:
#1=240
#2=304
#3=396

???

Also, all those circles are columns, right?

And is that cinema 1 shown in the picture on mesbursmith.com?

Yes, the circles are all columns. You can see that in order to make room for the cinemas, two lines of columns were removed down the centre of each theatre. The theatres were located under courtyards in the building, so the removal of some columns didn't impact the structural integrity of the tower above.

As far as seat counts go, who is Rivest? I took the numbers off our original design drawing. They may have re-seated the cinemas with more generous row spacing, or wider seats at some point. I really don't know.

So the seat counts you listed were correct for each auditorium? It's a little hard reading that page, because it's small, and when blown up, it's blurry.

2@ 304
3@ 396

Andrew:

I'm not sure where Rivest gets their information from. I spotted an immense number of errors in the listings for my local theaters. Mine says that it was opened in 1999 which is rather far off from 1973. I'm not sure what the columns are to the right hand side - 20,30,etc. (Years opened? maybe). If I get time I see that I could email corrections to them.

Beck, I believe he's Canadian and has all the correct information for the large cities here, as he has many local photos and all the cinema info for Winnipeg, MB is correct.

As for MESBURSMITH: My last post above and, do you have a large file size/large version of the blue print, so I can print and read it?

I have a small (8.5 x 11) presentation drawing of the plan, also a small drawing of the entrance at the mall level which I could fax to you, if you give me a fax number. I can't seem to get better quality with plans on this posting. Here's a few more photos I found.
