So how much are people paying for popcorn these days?

I have been buying popcorn from a Missouri Farmer. This year the cost is 24% higher than 12 mos ago and last year was 16% higher than 2007. That makes my cost $18.61 per 50lb bag (when buying 50 bag pallets). vs. $12.87 in 2007.

Who are you buying from?

Thanks

Hi Jack:

I can't help you with a supplier today but back in '06 when I was managing a single screener in Iowa I was buying from an area farmer. It cost me less than a nickle to fill a 148 oz tub which I sold for $3.50. I figure popcorn has to really climb in cost before our profit margin is in danger.

So it's a year and some change later, I buy from Harlan Fairbanks, I believe I pay $26 per 50 lb bag of corn. No popcorn farmers near the beautiful Olympic Peninsula in way west Washington state.

we buy from Sam's Club .... I do not think Sam is a farmer!, I'll find out the per bag. We buy as we need so maybe 15-20 bags at a time.

Our Sam's Club sells the Act II for around 17.00, but I buy Monster Mushroom popcorn, from my Gold Madal supplier. It's over 20.00 for a 50 lb. bag.I use the Naks-pop coconut oil sticks. I sell my popcorn in cups & tubs, because the bags look like micro-wave to me. I clearify my own butter to remove the water & milk solids. ..It taste's just like the good old O'Dells. I think that buttered popcorn should have butter on it, not golden topping made from -??
