Hi all,
Thanks for all the help with my questions so far.
Here's another.
Do you need a food and beverage liscense for serving
pop and popcorn? or for that matter any other liscense
that I might not know about that has to deal with running
a movie house.

You need to check with your local health department for the answer to that.

In my area, anything that results in food being prepared and temperatures monitored requires a health permit. If I served only packaged items, I would not need this.

I do get a break on my permit, being that I'm a drive-in. I get a seasonal discount (50%) off what a full-time kitchen would pay.

Depending on your menu, your concession staff may also need health cards. The test is pretty simple... stuff about how to handle food correctly, tie your hair back, what temperatures to cook and hold food, how to cool foods for storage... and how often to wash your hands... that kind of stuff.

Thanks so much, there are just things like this that are coming to me after we agreed to buy the theatre, i'm sure I'll have more questions as the days go on.

Check with your County Health Department to see what you might need. Here in California we have to apply and pay for an annual food handlers permit. The environmental health inspector comes by to inspect about three times a year.

That's probably because you know what you're doing, Leeler.

It was a bit like that, just North of here, where I grew up. No health department interference, and we had a well for our water... best in the West... ice cold... we didn't have an ice machine for years.

Now of course, everything's changed. Health permits (read: money grab) are required each year, though the inspector doesn't show up more than every 2 or 3. The well water has to be sampled and tested twice a year. I don't have a problem with that so much... preventive maintenance & all... but that darn thing is as clean as it was when they put it in... in 1953.
