So we found out today that Odell's price on the Classic Blend oil went up 42% this past November and to expect another price increase soon.

On top of that, our cost of corn is going up at least 50% if not much more.

So what is everyone doing regarding this cost increases? Any other options for oil? We certainly like our corn with the classic blend oil. We also use flavocol and the butter from odells as well as our topping.

I have been told to expect our fryer oils to double in cost, so why not our popping oil too?

our corn cost went up only $2 a 50# bag so far...

If our costs go up we will be forced to pass it along. and we will explain to anyone why if they complain and as in the past I'm sure once they know we arn't trying to gouge them they will be fine with it as we still are CHEAP for a nite out!

It's all about the 'Value' of the experiance.

In anticipation of another round of price increases for oil and corn on top of what has already occurred, we are looking at a possibility of an 35-50% increase to the customer. That would give us an approx. 70% gross margin which is what we had before.

All Vegtable oils are at record highs. Never in our history have we paid such high prices for oils.
The reasons are many, but the main one is that all over the world countries are looking for other sources of fuel. Biodiesel and alcohol are two. Both are made from the same grains that our cooking oils are made from. These companies are buying oils that we use. They have created a large demand. (larger than our supply.) Prices are high for these comodities to entise the farmer to grow the grains they want. Last year the farmer grew corn,so we are now short on soy oils and popcorn. The farmer will grow only what he thinks he can make the most money on.
Another problem is the investment companies are taking money out of the stock market and trading commodity contracts. This has also helped to force prices higher. Prices are not going to come back down until we find a form of fuel other than veg oils.
I think that Pop N Lite is a better product than Odell's ( I work for Lou Ana)

Yet another feather in the cap for Coconut Oil. Not affected by the price of corn!

I think not, baby puppy!

After trashing coconut oil, and then hot dogs, the Cholesterol police had to eat crow when it was proven that coconut oil is actually GOOD for you!

Besides, like everything else in life, it's a matter of perspective. Water will kill you, if you consume enough of it. How often do people eat popcorn (aside from us, that is)?

Give me a large!

I pay $19.80 for four 12.5# poly bags of snappy popcorn delivered. It may be more expensive but I don't care. Convenience counts and the customers love it. We have a caramel corn shop in the theater and use it for that as well. We're considering going over to "mushroom" popcorn for the caramel corn shop as it pops in a round shape instead and doesn't bust itself up when being coated with caramel.

We pay $19.25 per 50lb bag of Weaver Yellow Gold Popcorn, delivered from a local supplier.

We tried the popcorn that Sam's sells and didn't care for it. It didn't pop up as big and I thought we had more unpopped kernels than with the Weaver popcorn.
