I was wondering what the average cost is for theatre-size candy. Say, Milk Duds and Red Vines. How much do you pay for them through your supplier or whomever.

(Milk Duds are one of my favorite candies, but I usually don't sell them because they are the most difficult candy to get off my new seats--once they have been sat on for an hour and melted into the material.)

We pay $.75 to .91 for our big theatre sized candy and sell it for $3.00.
Ex: Twizzlers, Dots, 5 oz. Milk Duds
We are just one screen so I'm sure the multi's get it cheaper.

It is annual inventory time so I am up to my eyeballs in prices for all our concession items. All of our big stuff comes from Clark Foodservice so here goes the pricing that we paid most recently:
Airheads .63
BunchaCrunch .58
Butterfingers .58
Care Bear Gummi Bears .47
Lemon Heads .50
Sqworms .61
Twizzlers .55
Mason Dots .56
Good N Plenty .73
Jr Mints .86
Goobers .58
Milk Duds .67
Raisinets .58
Sno-Caps .59
M&M Crispy bags 1.22
M&M Peanut bags 1.22
M&M Plain bags 1.22
Skittles bags 1.10
Sour Patch Kids .63
Starburst bags 1.10
Reeses Pieces bags 1.09
Big Twizzlers (not Clark) .97
Most are 3.5 oz sizes except for the bags which were originally 8 oz bags and have been getting smaller and smaller. We carry 41 different items on our candy inventory not including the various flavors choices but the little ones come from several different suppliers as we get better prices.

I don't mind milk duds because I seldom find them on the seats but I carry a scraper to get the Sno-caps off the seats and a magnifying glass to get the little white balls off the floor. But then Nerds are worse as they cannot be seen- only felt as you step on them. So we have practiced the art of sweeping even where you can't see when you find that Nerds were consumed in the area. **Nerd Alert** to the usher sweeping the row in front or behind also.

Now that Hershey controls a good chunk of the candy market including Jujfuits and the former Leaf brands such as Milk Duds, they have announced a significant across the board price incease for all of their products effective at the end of December 2002. I do not recall the exact amount but the increase is something in the neighborhood of 18 to 20%. I would image that Nestle and Mars will soon follow suit.
