Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. Do you think name brands in a theatre candy case really count for anything? Sour Patch Kids are the best seller, but would the cheaper "sour jacks" do any differently??? Would replacing Raisinetts with the cheaper "sunmaid raisins" affect sales and so on...

We carried "off brand" choclate peanuts and wrote them off as waste. we changed to goobers and sold the heck out of them.

I think it depends on which candy it is.
my be a try and see thing.
But I would stay away from choc products

I think to some extent the brand name does mean something. I don't think people like seeing their Red Vines or Reeses Pieces replaced with generic brand. Another example would be Jelly Bellies. I think people become comfortable with certain brand names.

If your contract with the supplier allows, display BOTH brands for a while, and see which sells better, or if you get verbal comments about preferences.

It's not just the name you buy. You're buying what you know to be in the bag or box. Like Jujubeyes......or whatever the hell that is...who'd ever buy those based on the name?
So the problem is that when I want my M&M peanuts with a Moxie I know what taste sensation and crunch factor I'm assembling. Names tell the tale!
