My projectors (christie 2210)are coming up on their 2 year factory warranty.
Today I got a quote from my installer for an extended warranty of $1500.00 per projector/ per year.
Does anybody know if that is in Line with other insurers? Any tips or hints how I can save some money on this?
Thanks,
Jay

I don't know, but I would find out EXACTLY what is covered by their extended warranty.

I just spent $5,600 on 2 year extended warranties for my two Barco projectors. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but I do think it's worth it. My original warranties will be up in March of '15, and this extends each projector warranty by an additional 2 years... parts only.

In the year and a half I've had these machines, I've already seen how the "default" solution to a hardware error is to just yank out the old part and replace it... not to trouble shoot it. Not that big of deal when someone else is paying for the part, but when it comes out of my pocket, that's a different story. Should a light engine go out - you're talking MAJOR money. Like any extended warranty, it's an insurance policy. You might use it, you might not.

Sometimes you have to "swap out" parts/assemblies until a problem is solved. As with anything involving computers, some things are intertwined with each other and more than one part or assembly must be replaced to fix a problem. In that case, an extended warranty might make sense, especially if it's an expensive part.
