I know of a very small community with its historic theater for sale. A few people in the community are beginning to talk about how to put together some sort of a group or co-op to buy and operate this theater. From an operational and management standpoint, it seems fairly straightforward to me, but I've always been curious as to how non-profit groups go about booking films with the studios. Who signs the personal guarantees that are required for the MLA's with the studios?

If you have any insight or advice about community owned theaters, I'd love to hear it.

I managed a theatre for a not-for-profit. I hired a booker. The NFP board was responsible for all the expenses. I was never asked for a "personal guarantee".
