TOPIC: 3D charge

3D charge 14 Mar 2011 20:43 #35528

What do film companies get on 3D sales? Do they get half (on average) of the upcharge, or is this amount treated differently.

Thx

studios will take a royalty on the full price charged

if your general admission is $8.00 and your 3D upcharge is $3.00 and your roylaty is 50% then $5.50 would go to the studio less sales tax

then depending on what 3D you use, you may send $.50 to $.75 of that upcharge to the 3D company like real D

Yes the studios do take their normal cut of the upcharge in the case of Real/Master Image/Technicolor where the studio ultimately paying for the glasses/ I do know of a Dolby 3d operator who does not have to share a glass rental fee (expect for Disney) with the studios which I believe makes sense as the studio is not the one paying for the glasses.

According to the new Warner Bros master agreement you pay the percentage on everything. As I read it if your premium ticket experience includes anything like valet parking, or other food or amenities included as a 'package price' then you pay the percentage on the full amount charged.

Yea,

AMC used to charge a higher ticket price for their Fork & Screen/Cinema Suites but give a credit back for food/drink purchases. They no longer do that.
