Have any of you for-profits been successful in getting any grants of any kind? I was recently sent an application for a local tobacco fund grant. I've been writing for days. Not too many of these opportunities come up that I am aware of. Anyone have any tips?

Burney,

Before I owned my theater a non-profit group formed to buy it and renovate it. An added benefit to this group was that they were able to apply and receive grants (a 503C group, I think was their designation). We received a grant from the Main Street Iowa group and we received a grant from the local gaming boat. It was a big help and it really got the project off the ground for us. I'm not sure how to get grants now that we are definitely FOR profit but I guess I would turn to the internet in this situation. A quick search on grant writing shows a myriad of links. Here are a couple:

Good luck

"What a crazy business"
