I've seen posts that some of you sell and produce your own slides for pre show advertising. Do you produce your own filler ads or do you get them from another company?
Anybody we have spoken to wants a contract to sell the ads also.

My webmaster made up some of my own ads for parties, private showings, ad sales, etc. We then sent them to Gil at www.slideshow.com and he produced the actual slides without any pressure to buy anything else from him.

My filler slides are currently Coke Trivia that I am getting from other theaters when they get their new batch in. Coke supplies them free to the theaters that sell Coke. I was trying to negotiate a new contract with Pepsi the other day and told him Coke supplies the slides free, yet I checked into Pepsi trivia slides and they wanted me to pay for them. He told me Pepsi was beginning to take cinema advertising more seriously and he thought he could get them to me free also. I didn't tell him I had Coke slides on screen now--although that might have made him get them to me faster!

I am referring businesses who want to purchase ads from me to a lady here in town (a photographer) who is making them herself. I'm not sure where she is sending them to for processing, but she is doing a really good job.

We're currently doing Powerpoint slides on a DLP projector and it works great. you can add animated slides, even video clips. I was thinking of including either stills or even added trailers before the movie, but haven't gotten that far yet.

Just a thought

I want a DLP projector, but aren't they about $10,000 plus the lens?

We are using Sony projectors. Cinemaster or something similar. As I recall, they were aroung $3200 a year ago.

Mine is a BenQ and it's about $2800. It has lots of lumens and good screen resolution. There are definitely more expensive ones out there but this is suitable for what I need from it.

John,

How does this system work? Can you design your own slides for it or are they stock slides?

John,
How much does the entire system cost? Is Kodak's a subscription type service?

I am not directly involved with Kodak's Digital Cinema team, certainly not the marketing aspects.

Here are some contacts you can write to for more information and a discussion of your needs:

Every week we create a DVD on our Dell computer equipped with a DVD-RW drive. The DVD includes local business advertising (that they supply as a jpeg file), slides we create (using Photoshop) that promote events, upcoming films, etc. along with a short video about theater etiquette and a popcorn animation -- both created by local video artists.

We used to handle all of our ad sales in-house but have struck a deal with the local newspaper. Since we also produce a monthly newsletter that is printed by the newspaper - they sell all the print ads and use on-screen ads to package (sweeten) the deal to advertisers. They keep the print ad sales and we keep the on-screen sales.
