I got hit again last night. The thief stole my lavoratory faucet handles and the decorative top on the sink plunger from the men's room. How senseless is that?

Sorry Burney, there are some animals in this world!... Just be thankful that they didn't tear the lavatory off the wall... About the only thing you can do is eliminate locking rest room doors, only allow one in at a time, and check your restrooms every few minutes... You have to keep 'em terrorized and throw the book at anyone you catch in the act... You knock yourself out trying to provide a nice clean safe place for 'em, and they see how fast they can turn it into a sewer... Just wait til they discover how much fun it is to slash up your seats, and how tough it is to catch 'em at it in the dark!...

You want senseless, how about kids walking from stall to stall in the bathrooms on the tanks on the top of the toilets! WHY!!, judging by the footprints they leave it happens quite often, not just hear but also at the college here. (Our custodian cleans at both places)

Is this legal?

I know you can’t put a video camera in the bathrooms BUT is there any reason you can’t mount a VERY OBVIOUS video camera outside the door such that anyone going in KNOWS they are being taped?

You wouldn’t even need to record anything just a dummy video camera with a blinking red light. Intimidation of the little cretins might help cut down some of this nonsense.

Just a thought...

MILL <> Think I gotcha beat!... Caught a 12-13 year old standing on one of the toilets and whizzing on the floor and wall in a semi-circle, trying for a distance record... Told him "little man, you're gonna hafta mop this up."... He said "give me a mop."... I said "no way, hafta use your t-shirt."... He said "I won't do that."... I said "ok, let's go to the police station" (next door)... He moped it up, wringing it out several times, and I made him put the shirt back on and told him to get back inside the auditorium and not come out again... When the movie was over, he came out, with his Mother!... I thought Oh S--t, here we go!... But she just smiled and they left quietly... Obviously, he didn't tell her (thank God!), but I'll bet he never pulled that trick again!... It's always better to be lucky, than to be smart!...

Yes, no cameras allowed in restrooms!

But many stores in Rochester have obviously placed video cameras, sometimes with a monitor showing what they are photographing --- "Smile, you're on un-candid camera".

Potential thiefs or vandals may think twice knowing that the police will have a video record of who was there, even if the video doesn't "catch them in the act".

A few real cameras can be supplemented by numerous "dummy" cameras.

kids aren't stupid, they know a dummy camera when the see one. buy a real camera, even if broke, drill a pilot hole in the wall and run the cable into it, secure it with silicon so it looks professionally installed. a security camera may stop some idiots, but some like the challenge. we have 3 cameras in our vending area/ lobby, all connected to a timelapse vcr and kids still try to pull off **** in front of them.maybe, the know that they will never make it onto the big screen, so this is their way of stardom????????

We've had one of our huge ashtray cannisters stolen from our front door area, under our canopy floods! why anyone would want it????? it was rusted and the top didn't fit properly. we loose cheap 1.59 salt shakers too! they steal them right off the counters, while the movies are running. i have noticed that most restroom vandalism is always in the ladiesrooms. we finally had to strap open one of the old restrooms on the second floor, the restroom with the most problems. why would anyone want to ripoff a sanitary box off the stall wall??? my guess is that the kids 12-15 years old are the vandalizers, judging by the dumb stuff that they are doing.

Most of our vandalism is in the ladies washroom too. I would never have guessed that. They guys gets messier because guys are pigs, but not as much vandalism.

I agree, use real video cameras as your "dummy" cameras. Hopefully you can find some inexpensive used/broken ones.

You almost bet that the culprets in all the above cases are kids. Their aim is not value but just destro and get away with it. No values (short from what THEY WANT), no fear(because face it, are they really going to pay for they're crimes?), and no respect for authority (guess that comes from home). In a time where there are good kids as well as bad, its sad that bad ones get the most attention.

My neighbor gave me some replacement handles that didn't quite fit. One of my patrons brought in some tools and fixed them so they work. The ones stolen were gold colored and chrome. These are white, but still look good. I don't think this was kids. I think somebody liked how they looked and decided they would look better in their own bathroom. Anyway, my friends, neighbors and patrons took care of me and I am thankful.

Nothing happens to criminals anymore. We have had three embezzlements (1.bank, 2. health clinic, 3.high school boosters)in my small town in the last couple of years. Not one of the responsibles served over two days in jail! I think they need to kick the drug addicts out of jail, unless they were arrested for another crime in addition to possession, and make them work--no welfare, foodstamps, AFDC, medicare, housing assistance or anything else--and put people who hurt other people, either physically, emotionally, or financially, away for a significant amount of time. I agree with a true three strikes law; whether they steal an apple or a set of faucet handles or commit an armed robbery, on the third offense they should spend the rest of their life in prison. Maybe then more people would fear incarceration. And another thing, the jails and prisons shouldn't be like country clubs. I know not all are, but the trend now is to be soft and cuddly. Bring back chain gangs and hard time.

We lose: arm rests (?), anything we pin up on the bulletin board for educating folks, a wall clock, a glass gazing ball we used as a balcony corner. If it ain't nailed down: They'll steal it. But faucet handles? That's a new one.
