I know that it's only September, but I'm curious what everyones top 10 films have been for this year. During the past ten years our business once school has gone back has never produced any grosses that would over shadow any that had come before them. I doubt that this year will be any different, so there seems to be little chance that the top 10 list will change much after this point if it does at all.
The national top 10 or top 100 for that matter never seems to reflect my list here at this theatre. Many things affect what product does the best in any given situation.
So anyway here is my top 10 thus far for the year 2002. You will certainly see some surprises... I know that I was certainly surprised by some, especially my number one!
I haven't listed grosses as that doesn't mean anything when comparing from theatre to theatre as they are determined by such things as price, population, competition etc, but what I have done is list them by percentage giving the number 1 film the 100% designation so you can see how well the various films performed in relation to the highest grossing one.
1. Snow Dogs - 100%
2. Lilo & Stitch - 93%
3. Harry Potter - 87.6%
4. Monsters, Inc. - 82.3%
5. Spiderman - 78.1%
6. Scooby-Doo - 70.6%
7. A Beautiful Mind - 63%
8. Kate & Leopold - 61.2%
9. The Rookie - 60.2%
10. Star Wars, Episode II - 60%
and just to take it a little further as I would have expected several of these to be in the top 10.
11. Lord of the Rings - 58.8%
12. I Am Sam - 57.4%
13. Ice Age - 57.7%
14. Sum of All Fears - 57.6%
15. The Bourne Identity - 55.5%
Keep in mind that my list will differ from many due to my theatre being 2nd run and several of these films were released in 2001 but didn't get to subrun until 2002. I also did not include any grosses for weeks beyond the first. Naturally some pictures did better in there 2nd week then others did in there 1st, but I didn't count them. These are based only on 1st week grosses.
Now I'm curious as to how others have done?
