In my travelings I have heard both terms used in setting up film. So I was wondering if any of you know which came first, Load or Thread.

Hmmmm, I have never heard the term of load. I have always used the term thread.

I thread, but some people lace. I load film on to a platter, after I buid-up the film on to 6,000 ft. reels. But I thread a projector. I tear-down a film from the platter, when the run is done. A set of shows at a particular time like our 1:00 - 1:45 PM shows is called a rack of shows. So I thread up a rack of shows.

I often rebuild the film after it has fallen off the Technicolor reel and I have to load it on another reel. I commonly would like to load the previous projectionist into a dumpster when I deal with masking tape splices. It's not uncommon for me to want to thread a
customer's tongue through their coat zipper when they ask why things cost so much. There are other verbs and adverbs that frequently come up in a projection booth. But, a rare moment of good taste is preventing me from posting them here.
(Trying to get the hang of this bold thing)
