I was looking to hire a person for the ticket window a few weeks back. In interviewing one young man he mentioned that he was paid in cash at the last movie theater he worked at. I always thought this was Illegal! I didn't hire him but it got me wondering. Is there any case when paying in cash is legal?

Paying cash to the employees is not illegal.

Not reporting those payments to the I.R.S. is illegal.

We use a payroll service to keep our nose clean and the paperwork in good order.
