If you have no room for curtains (either side or ceiling mounted) for a screen, is anyone showing a photo of curtains before they start their pre-show stuff or trailers? I figure it might be better than a blank white screen. For example:

Just download the picture and show it on the digitial projector you're using for your PowerPoint/pre-show ads. You could even make it the border for each slide, so each ad would be inside the curtain. Or put "Welcome to XXX Theater" inside or on the curtain, depending on which picture you use (curtains closed or open).
