I would always sugest that one deals when possible with the local theatre supply company as they will be the ones needed when on a friday night something breaks down and you need somene to come out and repair it
I regularly tell theatres that choose to uy there supplies elsewhere to call that source for emergancy service and live with the hi cost of travel and waiting for someone to arrive

A local tech used to bring up that very point. A large chain he used to service would call him whenever something would dump on them... especially on Friday night. On the other hand, whenever a big project would come up, they'd used his bid as leverage to get lower prices from other companies, then deal with them.

In my area the cloest tech is 7 or 8 hours from us so who do you buy from then? The tech's don't care to rush up to you. The good thing is a can do most of it myself, sound, projectors most plater problems! Now lamphouses sort of scare me as I have been hit really good once and sort of okay light a few times. I know on the lamphouse it is a matter of being careless or go going to fast though and am trying to slow down when I work on them. I usually use NCS for purchase of equipment. I have never used ACE but have heard of them.

There are some very good suppliers around... many of which have well-qualified service departments, including:

I know there are other good ones out there, but these are the ones I've had direct experience with.

There are also a lot of theatre owners, managers and projectionists who frequent the various forums around here, and have a lot of experience in the technical side of this business. It's not hard to get a lot of opinions... and a few really good answers!

I have had good luck with Entertainment Equipment in Buffalo NY for my upstate NY theatre. Good response time and that guy from Canada always takes my calls to help....thanks Gordon
