There is a theatre that closed down two years ago here about to auction off it's goods this Saturday, including two 35mm projectors. I do not know what make of projectors these are, but I assume they are in operating condition and I also assume they are the original ones the theatre had when it opened in the 1950's. Are there any rough estimates on their value? I know this is very little info to go on, but it is all the info I have.

Well, from the little information, my opinion would be $1,000 tops.

You cannot assume that any projector was brand new when a theatre opens. Used equipment was/is installed all the time.

You can check the classified ads here and on Film-Tech. Boxoffice magazine often has ads for used equipment, and eBay often has used theatre equipment listed.

But the bottom line is that much depends on the condition of the equipment, and how easily it can be refurbished to provide dependable and good quality projection, and be compatible with technology (e.g., red LED readers, digital sound, interlock, etc.). For the novice, getting the expert opinion of a theatre service engineer or equipment dealer is a good idea.
