I am interested in knowing what type of monitors and what kind of luck evryone is having.

I have all Ultra Stereo--but in 2 different booths have had a problem with them cross feeding some how--in 1 case I ended up disconnecting the whole thing, in another I am only reading off the processor.

The disconnected one was on a CP-55, the other an upgraded CP-50.

The problems with most monitors is usually bad wireing and grounding practices when they are in installed
I uese the most the SMART 6 channel econommy monitor and for larger house the Component Engineering one

We have an Entertainment Engineering monitor. Seems to work well, although it is a bit big taking up 2 full rack spaces. It's nice to be able to switch between all channels for basic troubleshooting during a show.

We use an Ultra CM-35. I really like it as it allows you to listen to output from processor or output from the amps by a select switch. You can also choose to listen to any separate channel. These options make troubleshooting easy.

I have a Kelmar connected to a CP-55.

I have encountered Ultra Stereo's with lots of problems. Seems the wires are not sheilded and they give off a terific 60 cycle hum throughout the whole system.

Around western Washington state there's a lot of Component Engineering model MS-100 monitors. Excellent units plus the manufacturer is in Seattle.

I have had the same problems with unshielded cabling with the Component Engineering that I have had with the ULtra Stereo. Be careful there as well.

The problem isn't usually shieling but ground loops

I use a single piece of multiconductor cable from the processor output to the monitor input that has a single ground connection and one hot per channel
On the speaker side remember that the low side of most amps are ground so multiple ground paths can exist if you don't have just a single conductor connecting the speaker out terminal to the monitor input
Grounding is a vastl misunderstood issue and ground loops are even a bigger one with many technicians
