What is the absolute minimum amount of equipment needed to project 35 mm film?
I'm guessing one platter and one projector
or two (modestly) priced projectors using
the old single-reel changeover method.
Splicer
Rewind
Amp
Make-up table
Some extra reels
what else?

Having only used carbon-arc lamphouses, do
Xenon lamphouses need to be vented as well?

I've got the auditorium, seats, screen and two high-quality floor-standing stereo speakers. The throw is short-about 50 ft.
Need advice on best platters/projectors.
Have never used a platter-only two Simplex
projectors in tandem, so I know nothing about
platters. Not adverse to using two in tandem again-if the price is cheap enough,
although I'm willing to move out of the 19th
Century and use Xenon lamphouses.

One last inquiry: Do Xenon lamphouses operate on A/C or D/C current? Have some
old extra-heavy copper rectifiers but don't know if I'll need them.

Any of you guys with equipment to fill the bill, let me know.

DC Rectified Usually converted from 3 phase AC but there are single phase out there.

I don't know if carbon arc rectifiers would do the job. ( I am not up to speed on carbon arc)

Mucho ventilation unless you like hot quartz splattered all over.

Exciter lamp power supply

xenon lamphouses need a power supply

Automation unit

Sim: you're almost there. Get someone to start hooking it all up and they'll show you the rest. Get a platter. Get ventilated: a bulb gives off +/- 10 zillion degrees: try that in a closet in the summer time.

Is this for a theatre, or a personal screening room? Lots of good used equipment on the market. Platter is a good choice for multiple showings, changeover with two projectors if you have few showings of a feature or don't really need automation. You can start with the basics: platter, make-up table, splicer, lamphouse, projector, analog sound, screen, speaker(s) and move up from there. Arc lamps should be vented!
