Digital is on the move. "There's a lot going on, just nothing that's public," says one hardware executive in a recent article in Variety Magazine. Microsoft is formulating a deal with Landmark Theatres to put digital projectors in more then 50 theatres, with material encoded in the latest Window Media Player.

Knowing how many of you feel from other posts on the subject I was wondering how you would feel if you were approached by Microsoft to run digital in your theatre?

I'd tell 'em to go to hell. We don't need no stinkin' video projectors.

I'll take a free projector---of any kind. Just don't make me play commercials through it. I wouldn't mind, in fact, I would be thrilled to be the only theatre in the entire area using the latest technology. But, I would want to run a couple movies back to back (film vs digital) and do my own, in-house comparison. If the quality is truly not there, then there is no point.

If I have to buy the equipment, I'll probably be one of the last in the area to convert. Unless, of course, my hot dog Monday starts drawing in hordes more people!

If the quality of presentation was as good as "film done right", the equipment was free and I had control of the booking OK. Otherwise, forget it.

The projectors in question are a low resolution/light output machine and also a single chip type. The media player also doesn't even come close to anything on the professional side
