Hello All -

We are in the process of sourcing booth equipment for our second theater, a twin. Our single screen operation in south texas came fully equipped. However, apparently our list of booth equipment needs is impartial.

Can a vet. in the forum suggest a list of all necessary equipment, including booth and sound needs. This would help us significantly as we request quotes from equipment vendors.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Regards -

Steve Johnson

I second the motion. I am planning on reopening a mid-sized single screen in rural Iowa. I have a quote from a projection equipment company but I am having a tough time knowing if it's a good quote or if the equipment has a good reputation. I'm not sure exactly what I need, either (I know the basics, but not some of the finer points). Thanks in advance, for any help you can provide.

This is in no way a complete list but here goes:
Projector
Soundhead
Lamphouse
"" Power Supply
Reader for soundhead
5 Amplifiers
3 Stage Speakers
2 or more Subs
Processor
Digital processor if not included in the processor
booth monitor
equipment rack
non-sync stuff, i.e. cd player or satellite
4 to 12 or more surround speakers
screen
masking material
masking rigging and motor, switches, etc.
Speaker Wire
Platter
Rewind Bench
2K and 6K foot reels
hand rewinds
Make up table
port glass
lenses

This list is in no particular order. I got a quote on a booth for an expansion that we would like to do someday and it came in around $60,000-75,000 ($75,000 for a 2 projector changeover setup along with a platter)for the booth equpiment, screen, and speakers all new and top quality

Pretty good list, but a few important items missing. Electric dimmers for several circuits of house and curtain lights, and of course... curtain track, curtain motor and the house curtain itself.

Is that $75,000 about average? How much would you folks expect to pay to outfit a one screen, new vs. used equipment?

$60,000 is about average per screen for new equipment.

$30,000 per screen would be good for used equipment.

Hi Large - Would you know if there is a source for used equipment that one could seek out via the internet for most of the items one would need to get his booth up and running?

Most theater equipment dealers have websites now and you could inquire about used equipment. Many dealers have warehouses full of used equipment. Try www.cinequip.com

remember with used equipment there is a higher parts replaicement and reliablity issues involved
I usually recomend a dealing with a dealer that does its own design and specifing as they will custom fit the package to the needs and physical layout of the theatre in question
You can call Entertainment Equipment Corp
1 800 448 1656 for a quote and design services
