We are running Rabbit-Proof Fence and both the film stock and the info from Miramax says that it is in FLAT but it plays only in SCOPE on our print! Has anyone heard of this? Is it possibble that we got (or that they made) a scope print of a flat film? I feel stupid at this point as this has never happened before. Anyone else?

Never mind the above post. Although our booker, the film heads and multiple websites (including BSB) listed the film Rabbit-Proof Fence in Flat, Technicolor and Miramax confirmed it in Scope.

When in doubt, look at the image itself. Find known circular objects (e.g., clocks, wheels, etc.) and see if they are circles or ovals on the print. Leaders are SUPPOSED to be labeled with the proper aspect ratio, but this depends upon the dedication of the person doing the labeling. Reputable published information (e.g., listings in Boxoffice or Film Journal) is usually correct, but not always. When in doubt, LOOK at the film itself.

Hearing about this mis-labeled leader really annoys me. Every editor I know goes to great pains to deliver as pristine a print as he/she possibly can to the lab before printing the release prints.

I have a new expression:
"The problem is when the single raindrop doesn't believe they're responsible for the
flood."
