I just recieved a frantic call from the art house. They are showing Gone WIth the wind. did anyone else show that and how did you compensate for the diffrent flat ratio. I told them a differnt lens is needed but they can't find one. that quick

Wouldn't the ap. plate be recofigurable? I'd post this question in www.Film-Tech.com and hold onto your hat!

They have another lens coming plus I am going to make an apature plate on the port glass. The current flat lens cuts off things on top and bottom. I will also have to move the projector back.
Its actually 1.37.1

There were some GWTW prints that were printed with the 1.37 image in the centre of a anamorphic squeezed frame so all that was required was your scope lens and apperture in and the masking brought in

Gordon is absolutely right--if you are showing the redone "Gone with the wind" from a few years ago--use your anamorphic lense--works great, I loved the original intermission, with music, hope your print still has that in--a friend of mine showed it recently and some stupid SOB (excuse my language) chopped it out and never replaced it.

The print still does have the intro and
intermission music.
I went and looked at the print this morning fro them and it looked scopish to me so that is what I was going to suggest to him next.

We solved it by turning the scope lens 90 degrees and ecverthing looks great.
I had never done this before but it worked

You should not have had to turn the anamorphic 90 degrees, as it had a standard scope image on it., with the sides matted to the 137:1

I know stupid as it sounds it worked. I am wondering if his scope lens was installed wrong by his installer ( i have seen stupider (is that a word?) things done by installers. I did not check the lens before he moved it or snice he has moved it.

If the lens had to be rotated 90 degrees and had been used for regular scope playback then the image would have been a thin verticle bar towering above and below the screen and the image would have been UltrSqueezed

This person is not very projector savvy,
He had tried all kinds of stuff with his lenses. I told him to use the scope since that was what I had found out here. I think he had taken the scope adaptor off the lens and not put it back cirrectly when he tried the lens out. this is why rotating 90 degrees put it in the correct position.
He had it wrong when he put it back.
and when he rotated it it fixed it (in the correct scope position)

The correct aspect ratio for "Gone With the Wind" is 1.37:1.

If the image on the print is NOT squeezed, the projectable image area should be 0.825 x 0.602 inches (SMPTE 195).

If you have one of the anamorphic prints made a few years ago, the projectable image area is 0.473 x 0.690 inches. With a 2X anamorphic lens, this produces the original 1.37:1 aspect ratio. Cutting a new aperture plate (or using masking on the port glass) will prevent any light/scratches from showing on the black areas on each side.
