I was currently looking over some literature, and noticed that CINEX has 2.35 aspect lenses. I know that scope is usually the 2.39:1 aspect ratio, so which one do you use?

Standard SMPTE 195 specifies the current 35mm projection formats. The current "scope" format has an image area of 0.825 x 0.690 inches (20.96 x 17.53 mm), and uses a 2X anamorphic lens to produce a 2.39:1 aspect ratio on the screen. The older standard of 0.838 x 0.700 inches (21.29 x 17.78 mm) also had an aspect ratio of 2.39:1. Prior to that, the image area was 0.839 x 0.715 inches, which is where the 2.35:1 figure comes from.

Current anamorphic pictures all use a 2X squeeze factor for the lens. The focal length of the prime lens and the throw determine the image size.
