How importent do you think word of mouth is promoting a movie? How does it rank with the other advertising that's out there?

HELLO "TAKE 2" <> Good word of mouth is the best thing that can happen to a movie, but it's usually too slow to help you... Genuine holdovers (not the pre-planned ones) actually happened once upon a time, usually because of word of mouth, and return engagements were almost always based on good word of mouth, sometimes out-grossed the first run, and at a lower %... Today the product is usually played off so fast that word of mouth doesn't get the chance to build up in time for theaters to benefit, but DVD & tape get the benefits...

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING is about the best example of "word of mouth" I can think of!
