A QUEBEC INNOVATION
In nature, acoustic vibrations are created by intense, low frequency
sounds, which produce physical sensations. Think for example of thunder, an
explosion or a helicopter landing. Messina Electronique, a Blainville, Quebec-
based business and inventor of the sensory seat, has developed a technology
capable of reproducing acoustic vibrations without emitting the intense sound
heard in a natural setting. This new invention allows for increased physical
sensation in cinema seats without increasing the sound level in the theatre.
"Many in the industry think that this technology is the most significant
innovation since Dolby," said Gilbert Bouchard, President of Messina
A NEW PROVEN ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE
Famous Players has tested this new technology at Colossus Laval during
the last few months. Results from customer surveys are more than conclusive.
Three out of four customers interviewed believe that the viewing experience in
a Messina GSS sensory seat is better than sitting in a normal seat.
It is important to note that this new entertainment experience is most
noticeable during action-packed films with strong soundtracks. Action films
and epics will benefit most from the added-value of this new technology. A
drama or a romantic comedy will therefore not be shown in theatres equipped
with these sensory seats. The physical sensations intensify during action
scenes without interfering with sound during more quiet scenes. The system for
these sensory seats utilize the low frequencies in the soundtrack. This will
avoid creating unnecessary effects during quiet scenes, but will add the
proper dosage of physical sensations during action scenes.
