I know that there are many ways to promote an upcoming movie or a movie that is just opening. I have seen where some theatre owners as well as employees dress as some of the characters in a movie or at least get the theme thing going. Do you feel as though this is in just good spirit of the theatre owners and its employees or does it really help to promote the film?

Depends on the film. I know it has worked well for pictures like "Shrek" and "Tarzan". If anything, it may be able to get press coverage and PR in the local newspaper or television news. Costume contests are along a similar vein, where customers who best "dress the part" win prizes.
