Last summer was one of many sequels. Some did very well, three of which actually out-grossed their originals; "Rush Hour 2", "American Pie 2", and "The Mummy Returns". So the sequel has proven itself this summer at least. Still there are those who say that the sequel is artistic limitation through recycling. I think that there is a place for both. I was fairly pleased with the the squels I saw this summer. What are your thoughts on the topic?

If a movie opens and does very well there is always the gamble of whether or not to go for the sequel. More often then not the squel falls short of the original release because of a sorted number of reasons. Sometimes the story is told in the first movie and it doesn't warrant a sequel, but then sometimes new ideas arise that take the orinial into new paths. It's "Risky Business". Thank god they didn't make a sequel to that one.
