Just a few nights ago I rented MI2, and seeing it for the second time a noticed something interesting, no foul language. So I'd like to know if anyone out there has a reason why there is so much it around these days in the movies. I think that at times it really hinders a film. Two movies come to mind that could have been okay films if not for the burdensome use of the f&#@ word over and over and over again. Those two being "Hollow Man" and "Pinch Black". MI2 had action and held your attention without four letter repitions. So why is it so popular. I'm no saint and I have cursed with the best of them. But it becomes a bit redundant when its in ever other sentence.

I agree that foul language is overused in many of today's movies.

Likewise, a violent movie doesn't always need "blood and gore" to be effective. "Psycho" ranks as one of the scariest horror films of all time, yet you never saw the actual violence, and the blood was in black-and-white.

I also agree. A little foul language is tolerable, but its overuse in many movies is not necessary. "Good Will Hunting" was an excellent movie, but in my opinion would have been much better had they not used the f-word every other second. It seems like the powers that make the movies would realize this. Don't you think admissions/grosses would go up if language was cleaned up?

The sad fact is that in the real world people use a lot of swear words. Young adults, the armed forces, ghetto youth, construct workers, barhounds, criminal element are notoriously foulmouthed and they didn't get it from the movies. Ask someone who was in WW2 did they curse much in the army? Perhaps kids got it from the movies today but not when I was a @@##++***&&%%%£££!!! talkin' punk. There was no searing back then! I like the swearing when it's realistic. I thought Good Will was. but not when it gets forced and it become noticeable. Keep in mind that there's a lot more reality in Good Will Huntin' than MI2!

I agree Mike. It was those forced language movies I was pertaining too. There seems to be a lot of them out there.

Don't you think that the "ratings enforcement crackdown" has gotten studios to wise up? When they can adjust some lingo and get a PG13 rating instead of R, and thus a wider audience, they seem to be doing it of late.
We do get adult patrons relieved not to hear too much swearing, not just the parents watching out for their kids' ears.

"Blair Witch Project" was the worst I've
ever heard. Almost literally every other
word was the "F" word. It got to be self-
conciously embarassing after awhile.
I FAXed the head of Artisan with my complaints about not only the language but
generally what a piece of garbage "Blair
Witch" was. It made "Plan 9 From Outer
Space" look like "Gone With the Wind" and I
point-blank told him so. Of course he was
laughing all the way to the bank and I heard
nothing from him. P.T. Barnum was right.
