I did notice the you had problems getting films and that you had to pay advances. Usually: advances are reserved for late or difficult payers: IE people who may not or do not pay their film rental and TWO: new clients in which case they like advances until they see how you pay. Was that the situation? Mike

That's what it would be for me Jack until I make enough money to get stuff on the break.

I don't know why they asked for advances Mike. I suspect it was the new client thing. Some now may be because I have gotten behind on things.

Bob,
I feel for you and your family, I really do but you have been argueing on this board and others against screen advertising, Higher concession prices& Hollywood movies for years. Maybe it is time to acknowledge (and chsnge it at your theater) that times have changed and these are things you have to do these days to survive.Being a good person that shows good movies might not be enough anymore.
Regards,
Jay

When we re-opened a closed theater, our booker at the time said we were also being charged advances then because previous operator(s) had not performed/paid on time as well.

Bob,

If you want to start doing screen ads, you don't need to go with a big national company. You can just make them yourself and either burn them to a DVD to or hook your projector up to a computer to run the ad program before showtime. We work with a local business that produces a lot of local ads and we split the income 50/50. They handle all the customer service, design and billing. They just send me the jpg files once per month that I burn to a DVD (I use iMovie on my Mac) and that's what I show. It is no fuss for me. I make $500+ per month with absolutely no effort on my part.

re advances

if you are a new operator, I do not care who you are or how much money you have, you will pay advances. The faster you can show that you pay on time and without a fuss the faster you'll get off advances. I hate to say it but I was told repeatedly... one year of good pay and you can come off advances... many stopped requiring them for every booking but others went right to the one year mark and allowed us to "request" to come off advances only after the one year mark. And these were all good payers.

Barely able to stock anything Slap. Having to buy Pepsi by the leader at the grocery store. Candy we buy when able at WalMart. Dropped our supplier months ago because they demanded payment within 7 days and we couldn't do it.
