Bob,

How are things going a month later?

You certainly have some ideas that I have not seen employed elsewhere. Are you going to be able to stay open much longer?

How is the gaming going?

How are the PD movies performing for you? I saw you had no one show up for a 1$ admission for Gulliver's Travels.

Any update on the film clubs?

Not going well at this time. Working on booking live performances in addition to movies. Have had two so far and they've done well. Expanding the stage in the large auditorium to accommodate groups. Running blu-ray in small room. Attendance very poor on classics but no money for newer product even sub-run.

Bob does not play "R" rated movies Slap

So Bob, how much more time will you give it before you close it down?

Thamks Slap. I'll give that some serious thought I'm going to do everything I can to keep it open Jack. I know there is potential here. I just need to figure out what this community wants.

Bob, they want newer movies.

www.film-tech.com/ubb/f2/t004497.html

That sold pretty quickly, but there are more and more DCP projectors/servers out there in the used market for reasonable prices. There is also the NEC NC900C for a little over $20k ready to play current product.

I would look at the numbers and if you can't make the argument for spending $25-30k to get at least one auditorium running current product, you should just shut the doors.

They want newer movies, and believe it or not sometimes they want something rated R, despite being in the bible belt. King's Speech, Jersey Boys, Gran Torino, August Osage County, Lone Survivor... just examples I can think of off the top of my head that did really well for us amongst old, religious people. We're a small, rural very conservative town.

I do hope you can make it work.

My suggestion for you at this time is try to find the most current vod / theatrical releases they are at least current no advances and are almost always available on Blu ray !

Bob,

One of the hardest decisions for any operator is to know when to close an operation. For the life of me, I can not see how you believe their is potential at this theater. If you breaking even after actually paying people for their time for working, then I could see a glimmer of hope.

You are the second person to try and it has not worked well for either of you. You have tried a the normal movies to get people to the theater. You have tried some other unique promotions that have not worked either.

You tried. You gave it a good effort.

Well guys thanks for your comments and support. I believe I can make it as a sub-run on current product with the video projector. But I'm in kind of a "catch 22" situation. I have to have the money to rent the current stuff to make the money to rent the current stuff and I don't have the money and am certainly not bringing it in with the PD stuff. And I can't borrow it and don't really want to if I could. So far in 10 months I've succeeded in going $10.5 grand in debt. I have no staff just my wife, son and me. I believe the live performances will help. I'll keep you informed and short of telling me to shut the doors I look forward to your advise.

If you aren't willing to go into debt to get the equipment needed to keep the doors open, aren't you yourself deciding to shut the doors?

You have to spend money to make money.
