40 calls to our voicemail today. On a normal Summer Friday, it would be several hundred.

I think this is as much a matter of tradition and training as anything a business normally does. Any business will have its normal business week... open Saturday, Closed Sunday, open 8-5, short days on Christmas Eve, open late on Christmas Day, drive-ins open all week or just weekends... whatever.

For 20 years, we've been closed on the 4th, which has allowed us to spend the day with our friends and family. I'm as comfortable with my choice as I expect those of you who stay open on the 4th are with yours. Good for you. Hope you had a great day!

We did an 8PM showing of Hancock on Friday and only had about 50 people. Not as well as what we've done with the movie Tuesday through Thursday.

I'm relatively new in the business. Is it a violation of the terms of a first run movie to cancel showtimes? Do they notice this kind of stuff?

I just advise them when I book the film. Always be up-front to avoid problems, misunderstandings, and additional scrutiny.

no film co should know your showtimes?? As long as you run 1 show every day (unless your weekend only)they should have nothing to say..NOW SPLITTING A FILM IS A NO /NO ....

Tenmple Theatre Houlton: 11 people on a Friday night. Note to self: under no conditions be open on the 4th.

Colonial Theatre Belfast/ Maine 200+ people. Go figure.

It goes to show that each of you have to know your local situation and what is true for one location is not true for all. In my case: two theatres 150 miles away with completely different numbers.

We were open on the 4th, and our last showtimes ended at around 9:30. Not a lot of people. But you never know. Had to try it out in our area

Your right, we don't get 50 people most weeknights, because we are normally only open week ends. And who was complaining about only 50 people showing up on the Fourth??? The comment was it wasn't as busy as the weeknights had been.

Both of my theaters did quite well all weekend. All the fireworks were cancelled around here. Lots of tourists in town for summer vacation and nothing to do except the movies and bowl. I heard the bowling alley did well also. But, I am still disappointed we weren't able to have our annual fireworks. It is the place to be.
