not just sequels... anything with Pre-identification :( so fault In Our Stars is in as is Planet of the Apes, Transformers, Lone Ranger, Godzilla, etc. etc. etc. How much was Oprah paid to be in The Butler? .... 35K or it would not have been made.

In the last 5 years there's been a sea change and it's not going back.

And yes... TV is about 20 times better for domestic Americans than 80% of what's being made by the distribs.

Of course good movies are made... but what is being promoted? Generic films that can be dubbed in any language.

Nothing has changed in any meaningful sense in the 35 years since Star Wars and Jaws made summer tentpoles a thing. This is the same "things were better back in my day" stuff that EVERYBODY says about everything. The reality is that you have changed more than the industry.

And actors have been taking pay cuts for passion projects since the studio system collapsed.

"nothing meaningful has changed in thirty five years" ???

Ah... I beg to differ greatly and deeply.

1. the Chinese were up to their ankles in rice paddies 35 years ago
2. the Soviet Union dissolved 23 years ago
3. the interweb did not exist
4. there was next to no digital nothing
5. there were no cell phones
6. fax machines had yet to be introduced
7. Brazil... forgettabouit it
India... forgetaboutit
8. That would be the BRIC
9. there was no digial cinema
9. there were no digital movie cameras
10. DVD's were introduced in 1997 and by 2007 sales and their enormous studio profits for movies began a free fall into near irrelevance.
11. dish TV
12. Netflix
13. cable TV.... CNN went live 34 years aago

I could go on... but really... "nothing has changed" is just plain wrong. Not knowing that things have changed and nothing changing are two different things.
