Incessant promotion but only going 2500 prints. What's the point? Does the movie suck? Is it the Lone Ranger... that's not fair as the Lone Ranger actually grossed very well... simply put: why would they (Sony) spend so much on promoting this film and only go 2500 prints. It seems pretty stupid.

Same logic that was used for others lately, I guess - like August Osage County, which seemed advertised every other commercial break, but didn't play anywhere near my town.

Think there hoping the star power overshadows the story ..
Not that the story is bad just a limited audience appeal .

Reviews are pretty bad so far. We have some weird demographics here that make me think it might be worth it for a week towards the end of the month.

we have an army of older fans and it looked custom built for our area.... all I can say is I think they are nuts, Sony, more like stupid, no vpf's and they "can't go that wide"? Or even if there is a VPF.... how many theatres would not bring them a + sign to the opening.... these folks think they're geniuses. And they are clearly not.

Monuments Opening Friday here at the multiplex in Elizabethtown PA.

Place was just sold at bank foreclosure sale right before Christmas because it did no business. At that time the place was still all 35MM.

I was following that story. Have you been by yet to check out the changes?

3083 locations. Seems pretty inline with a release like this for this time of year.

Mike,

Are you saying you were denied b/c of VPF?

I agree that a theater without a VPF should have gotten this.

Any film locations get it?

IMDB of 6.7 is a pretty good score.

I had it confirmed to me again: what film companies care about is not always the gross overall... they want a high PER THEATRE gross... so they can walk into lunch with a swagger...

To be more specific, when they know they won't be #1 overall, they want to keep marginal grossing theaters out to keep the per screen average higher so they can boast of having the most demand per screen.
