I'd like to say it never happens. We got Hitch up on a take up roller on the platter and gave it a vicious cross frame, corner to corner deep green slash o' death. We called and got a new print in for sat. night. Sony now says : 1800.00 please. Yikes caramba! Any advice here? I've already squealed like a stuck piggie and begged like a weasle whiner on crack but it's looking very expensive. I have also suggested that all the scratched prints they had sent me were never back billed for lost presentation points but I heard no words of warmth. I am preapred to suck it up.

Seems like the only time you get tagged is if you are playing first run on break and have to order a replacement print. They then know who has done the damage.

It does happen from time to time. The last time I heard about in my area was the then opening of the brand new AMC 9 plex in May 1991. Seems the platter had not been set up correctly and on the first or second run through it sliced a whole print of "Thelma and Louise" into two seperate halfs. Cost them 2,200.00.

Yeah, getting a new print and damaging it enough to require a replacement leaves no question about who has to pay. More room for negotiation if the film has been around awhile, and replacement reels are available from prints coming off first run.

If it's any consolation, at least you didn't subject your audiences to a badly damaged print, and owned up to causing the damage.
