I run a single-screen art house, and know next to nothing about children's movies. The owner has donated the use of the theatre for one night to a charity, which auctioned it off. The winner wants a movie suitable for a party for 8-12 year old children. Some of you must have thrown kid parties before. Can anyone provide me with suggestions, please?

I can't tell from your post whether you are looking for a older film available for a flat $150 - $250 or a more current release. Racing Stripes from Warner Bros would be a good choice for the later and prints should be available for booking. Also, National Treasure( Buena Vista) is rated PG and interests both adults and kids. Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Paramount) (PG) might also be a possibility.

If you check out Paramount's website they have a number of kids films available for a flat rate booking if that is what you are looking for. Harriet the Spy would work for girls, I think that the Rugrats movies might be a little young for that age.

Or if, in keeping with your art house status, you want a classic children's film, I would recommend:
The Wizard of Oz (WB Classics)
Willie Wonka (WB Classics)
The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (Sony Repertory)
The Princess Bride (Criterion)
The Goonies (WB Classics)

Sponge Bob. BV won't do flat rate freebies so Increds and National treasure (boring for younger kids) would not work.
