It all depends on IF you've played off all the near-Christmas releases by that time, the weather, allignment of the planets, and a lot of other hard to predict variables... But all-in-all it doesn't look like it's gonna be overly prosperous...

I'm looking forward to January... and February, and March as well. They are always some of my best months. But then I'm subrun and will be playing all that good product that came out in November and December.

It is the escallating roller coaster nature of this business.

And to think the studios are fighting over May 2006 release dates. Yes I said 2006!

Assault on Precinct 13 is the movie to book for the winter months. It has winter blue cure all over it!

Precinct 13 Huh? I'd rather watch the original film from which John Carpenter stole the plot back in 1976 .....John Wayne's "Rio Bravo".

Ain't nothing new in Hollywood.

At first I though January would be okay (not great), but then I checked Yahoo recently and realized otherwise. There are going to be no new nationwide releases New Year's weekend or the first weekend of January. About the only thing we can hope for is to pick up any of the movies we missed the first time (Spanglish, Fat Albert). Racing Stripes looks good and we're looking forward to that. Coach Carter looks okay; it probably won't be the greatest but it's better than nothing. Other than that, it does look rather bleek for the first quarter.

Boxoffice Mojo has recently added a very good new release page. Also gives estimates of theatre/print counts.

What about White Noise? That seems to be heavily advertised and people are asking for it. Also Hide and Seek?

Can't play all of these first run on my single screen because of how they time out, though.

I'm considering:

In Good Company
Elektra
Million Dollar Baby

Of course I won't be showing these for some time afterwards (probably March)

February is not going to be any better:

POOH'S HEFFALUMP - Another video title making a quick detour into theatres.

HITCH (FORMERLY LAST FIRST KISS) - I don't know about you but my audience will not pay to see Will Smith in a romantic comedy.

SON OF THE MASK - Dumb and Dumberer redux.

BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE - Based on the children's book about a puppy dog. Nobody knows what this is about.

WEDDING DATE - romantic comedy from the people who brought you last year's "How To Deal" (Did anyone pay for a ticket to that one?)

CONSTANTINE - No, not a biopic of the roman emporer but based on the comic book about a supernatural detective. Another one no one knows anything about (See Winn Dixie above).

In a word ......YIKES!

The first time I see a playable picture is the second week of March.

I see COACH CARTER and possibly RACING STRIPES for the kiddies as movies that might move. Outside of that, it looks very bl...eek!

so, how is January shaping up for you?

I backpedeled out of Elektra as soon as I saw the cruddy reviews and bad opening week numbers. Racing Stripes isn't burning up the field either. All I'm left with in January is In Good Company and Million Dollar Baby.

February looks like Hitch, Winn-Dixie and Wedding Date for me. Good thing I have a pad of November and December releases to draw from or I'd be in tough straights.

What do YOU think?
