I got an e mail.... "where has Mike been?".... There was Christmas, there's looking at endless blue prints from a architect that doesn't get "it" for a 2 screen add on, there's negotiating with two new cities and the ideas for theatres in those places, then we went to NYC for 4 days between Xmas and New Years, flew home for the eve, got a lightweight flu, and landed in bed for a week, and I'm climbing back into the saddle. How about you?

Likewise, with busy Christmas Holidays, both at work and at home.

Since October, my wife has been undergoing numerous tests to find better control of her seizure disorder. PET scan and MRI studies incidently found suspicious "activity" in her neck that could have been cancer or a carotid artery problem. Fortunately, after multiple tests, all is okay there, but still have have more tests for the epilepsy.

Plus, we are that age where many elderly relatives are very ill and dying. In the last week, we lost an aunt and uncle, with another aunt and uncle entering the hospice stage. The passing of our parent's generation will be completed early this year.

I worked at our 10-plex Christmas day and spent the previous four days alone as my wife went to be with the grandchildren in Oregon. Watched a couple of bowl games New Years day.

I'm having some difficulty dealing with working for a company where one is "manager" in name only and has absolutely no say about how the place is run. But I shall continue to attempt to make it a pleasant workplace for the staff and to make the public feel like part of our theatre "family".

Yes BOB, I empathize with your frustration at being a "Manager" in a chain theater... I worked for two different chains as manager for a short time years ago, and hated the fact that my main function was to create methods to peddle their overpriced concession items... In truth, the only way you will ever really manage a theater is to buy your own and run it as you believe it should be done...

We worked the holidays through, had some brief glimpses of family and friends and then went full steam ahead on the coffee shop addition. We've torn apart the concession stand and put it back together and added an oven, an espresso machine, a coffee machine, several coffee grinders, numerous cabinets, plumbing, electrical, refrigerators, lots of little doo-dads that I have no idea of their function, dishes, plasticware, tables, chairs, syrups, paper-goods, etc etc etc. Whew, it makes me tired just typing it all, let alone, ordering it, paying for it and hauling it around.

The coffee shop will be open in the mornings and we'll have Good Morning America or something on the big screen and set some tables and chairs up front.

We are now a seven day a week operation and the push will be on to start booking movies sooner then in the past. Hopefully, the combination of all of the above will help with the slower part of the season.
