Hello,

We were trying to book it to run thru Christmas Vacation, but sony said we could NOT have it unless we raised our ticket prices from $4 to $6!

Needless to say I think that is crazy and would not even consider it EVEN IF it had been a first run, now considering the film will be a month old by then we told then forget it, and booked Lemony Snickets from paramount.

Since when can they try to dictate to us what we charge for tickets?

I think thats total B.S.

Tony.

It's not a new thing for distributors to try to dictate ticket prices, but what you experienced here is a lot less subtle than previous attempts I remember... In the past I have seen them claim to not have prints enough to take a booking, and Disney has often made veiled threats to apply per caps minimums to boxoffice totals... This is most likely an illegal attempt at price fixing, but not worth the cost and risk to pursue through legal action... Chances are it's a local situation, or something the film rep you're dealing with is trying to push, and in a few months it will likely vanish... In the meantime, you did the right thing to not let them dictate how you run your business!...

Cinemark runs several theatres with $4 evening/$2 matinee prices. They play first-run product in these locations as well (Cleburne, TX, Stephenville, TX, Paris, TX, Zanesville, OH to name a few)

Carmike has some small-town, non-competetive situations where they actually get away with charging $1 for first-run, on-the-break titles.

I agree. Don't let them push you to jack up prices. Higher prices could kill your business.
