Just recently found out about this theater. It's located in the small (around 1,000) town of Athena, Oregon (near Pendelton). Seems a small non-profit group is trying to restore this nice little theater. They have pictures of it at http://gemtheatre.digital-textures.com

This theater is NOT listed on cinematour or cinematreasures websites.

Wow!... Talk about a visit to the past: this is like turning the clock back 50 years!... This little rascal has a lot of potential, but there is a TON of work to do, and whether a population of 1,000 is enough to make it capable of becoming self-sustaining is a big ????...

That will be a major project, one I would not want to even think about. But, the clock is very cool. I have one just like it and don't know what is under the surrounding paint on mine.

Apparently there are no other theaters for miles, so that's a good thing in their favor. According to a newspaper report this group is working on getting a $950,000 grant to fix the building. Sure hope they get it since they have a nice theater.

I've tried to post on their message board at their website, but even though I'm listed as registered, I can't make any posts. Guess I need to email their webmaster.
