Yes, it did play in August (either the 13th or 20th - I can't quite remember). They released it only to the top grossing theaters in major markets. It died immediately. Most theaters dumped it within 1-2 weeks. Apparently even the church based publicity couldn't get parents to take their kids. We concluded that it had no business coming in here either after its abysmal performance so we didn't pick it up even though we live for kids movies. Kinda like Cliffords Big Red Movie which turned out to be a nonstarter too.
Edit - I looked it up in BoxOffice Guru - opened August 20th at #16. Opened in 877 theaters averaging $1724 per screen for a total of 1.5 mil. Hmmm! maybe a good movie for your Christmas shopping free matinee movie sponsored by the local downtown merchants. Good clean film that no one will have seen! I wonder if the rental would be cheap?
2nd edit - I looked on the benjireturns.com website to find the producer's telephone number in L.A.: Margaret Loesch 323 549-4391. Hope that helps.
