New theatre, need help! 04 Apr 2004 12:56 #7945

Hey, me and my business partner are looking to open up our own theatre in Georgia. We can secure funding, but need some crucial information and are scouring the internet for info.

If anyone can help, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The main things we're wanting to find out are:

Which kind of projections are used, 35mm or 16mm?

What organization do we need to join to get the films from? And how much do they cost? Or do they get a percentage of the ticket prices or what?

I realize we should know more, and that's why I'm asking these things. We've found an old theatre that we can get and open, but it has no projection or audio equipment in it. And we have no idea about how to get the films. Please, if anyone can help or refer us to a website that will help, please do so urgently! Thank you!

Apparently they are scouring the internet, but not this site!

Don't forget to check http://www.film-tech.com (it'll explain how a projector works, what a platter is, etc.).

Speaking of platters, I remember a thread talking about the first time someone ever saw a platter put in use. Anyone know where this is? I can't find it anywhere.

"Would you like fries with that?"

The first time I saw platters in use was in 1973, when "The Sting" was playing in Buffalo NY at the Holiday 6 theatres.
